The club - Byron Red Star FC

We are a friendly FA Charter Standard community based youth football club run to provide facilities and competitive football for boys and girls aged from 5 years and upwards.

Byron Red Star FC was formed in 1968 by Norman French and has been around for over 50 years.  We are proud of our Club and it’s achievements over the years. Past players who have gone on to play professional include Clive Allen, Steve McKenzie and more recently Jonjo Shelvey who is currently at Newcastle Utd FC in the Premier league.

Key attributes:

  • non-profit making

  • managed and operated by volunteers (DBS checked)

  • an open club that aims to deliver, structured, competitive football in a safe and fun environment for players of all ability levels

  • an expectation of good behaviour & respect for others

Unlike a lot of the clubs in the area we are a non-profit organisation and all of our coaches are volunteers who give up their time and expertise for the benefits of the children in the local area. At present we have 19 teams competing in leagues ranging in age groups from U7’s to U13’s, with another three in the development stage.  All of our teams play in the Echo Junior football league, which is the largest and most well-known youth league in Essex and the East London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Havering and the greater part of Hackney.  The Echo Junior football league currently consists of 114 clubs who may have one or up to thirty teams across the various age groups.
