Kestrels flying high !

The U8 Kestrels produced an amazing performance on Sunday morning to run out 8-7 winners against a good UPR side and record their first win of the season.

The Kestrels started brightly and created a number of chances before finding themselves two down against the run of play. Goals from Cross and Verdi pulled the Kestrels level before UPR managed to squeeze a shot past the ever improving Wheble in goal. The Kestrels continued to battle hard with both Pleydell and Delbosq-Swaep putting in some vital tackles to stop the tide turning even further in favor of UPR. The in form Verdi then powered in a quick fire double to leave the Kestrels 4-3 up at half time.

The match continued to be end to end with both teams trying to play football from the back. The lead changed hands again after UPR scored another 3 goals, whilst the Kestrels were only able to respond once. With time running out, and with the Kestrels now losing 6-5 it looked like it wasn't going to be their day but good work by Mathers created an opportunity for Man of the match Verdi to score his fifth goal to equalise. With seconds remaining and and the game looking like it was going to end in a stalemate, the Kestrels combined to produce a stunning passage of play culminating with Cross scoring a screamer to complete his hatrick and the Kestrels first win of the season. Man of the match - Verdi.

Team: Wheble, Delbosq-Swaep, Verdi, Cross, Pleydell, Mathers
